Tiruvarur sits in the middle of the delta, surrounded by paddy country and temple towns. It is one of the more traditional districts in the state for weddings: ceremonies are long, families are large, and the muhurtham is set by the almanac with no flexibility.
Mannargudi and Tiruvarur town both have significant temples that anchor local wedding practice, so a substantial share of ceremonies happen in temple precincts or in halls attached to them. Those spaces are warm, lamp-lit and crowded, which is the environment the base has to survive.
The district is rural enough that a lot of functions begin at a family home rather than at a venue, with the party moving to the hall afterwards. Anu comes to wherever you are getting ready, and family and bridesmaid styling is done in the same sitting.
