Thanjavur is the cultural heart of the delta, and weddings here are more traditional than almost anywhere else in Tamil Nadu. Ceremonies are long, ritual-heavy and closely observed by the family, and the muhurtham is set by the almanac rather than by what is convenient.
Kumbakonam adds a dense concentration of temple weddings. Those ceremonies happen in warm, lamp-lit spaces with a lot of movement and a lot of people, and the bride is often in the same look for six or seven hours before the reception is even mentioned. That is a wear problem before it is an aesthetic one.
The classical brief suits the district: heavy Kanchipuram or local silk, full traditional jewellery, and hair set to hold a maalai and flowers through the whole ceremony. Saree draping is included with every bridal booking, which matters here more than in most places.
