Kallakurichi was separated from Villupuram in 2019. It is inland farming country sitting below the Kalvarayan hills, and its weddings are among the most traditional in the northern half of the state.
Ceremonies are usually held at local halls or family homes, with very early muhurtham timings and a large extended family present from the start of the morning. There is rarely a separate getting-ready suite, so the work happens in a room at home with the household around it, which is a practical reality rather than a problem.
The look tends to be classical: heavy silk, full jewellery, firmly set hair with flowers. Saree draping and hair styling with extensions are included with the bridal booking, and the studio team styles family and bridesmaids alongside the bride.
